The short answer
Pick Convertful if your email platform already knows who your visitors are and you want forms that act on it: it shows or hides widgets by tags, lists and custom fields in ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Kit, Mailchimp and others, and it costs less once traffic grows because it only counts a pageview when a widget appears. Pick OptiMonk if you run a Shopify store, want to start free, and would rather describe a pop-up in a chat than build it: its agent designs the campaign, and cart targeting, product recommendations and auto-applied discount codes come on every plan. Agencies should look at Convertful first for its white-label plans with unlimited sub-accounts. Prices below were checked on November 4, 2026.

Pricing compared
Both tools sell plans by monthly pageviews, but they count them differently, and that matters more than the sticker price. Convertful counts a pageview only when a widget is triggered and seen, and several widgets on one page count once. OptiMonk counts every page load on your site, whether or not a campaign appears. If your pop-up runs on a fifth of your pages, Convertful's meter fills about five times more slowly.
Prices checked November 4, 2026, in US dollars before tax:
| Monthly traffic | Convertful | OptiMonk |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | Solo $9 a month, or $84 a year (branded) | Free |
| 20,000 to 25,000 | Starter $29 a month, or $204 a year | Essential from $29 a month, or $228 a year |
| 100,000 | Starter $59 a month, or $444 a year | Growth from $99 a month, or $828 a year |
| 500,000 | Enterprise $179 a month, or $1,164 a year | Premium from $249 a month, or $2,148 a year |
| 1 million | Enterprise $249 a month, or $1,584 a year | Premium range; price not published |
Below 10,000 pageviews OptiMonk wins outright, because it costs nothing. Above that, Convertful is cheaper at every tier we could price, by roughly half on yearly billing at 100,000 and 500,000 pageviews. OptiMonk lists its paid plans as "from" prices with pageview ranges (Essential covers 20,000 to 50,000) and does not publish the cost at the top of each range.
Sites are counted differently too. Convertful's Starter covers 3 sites and Growth 5, with 5 sub-accounts. OptiMonk's Essential covers 2 domains and Growth 4, and each subdomain counts as a separate domain.
Both stop showing campaigns at the limit. Convertful emails you at 95% and offers an auto-increase setting that moves you up a plan instead. OptiMonk emails you at 80% and pauses until you upgrade or the month resets.
Refunds are similar: 14 days on a first payment with both, plus 7 days on renewals at Convertful. Convertful's Shopify app adds a one-time $10 charge on the App Store, and its listing does not say whether that sits on top of a plan. OptiMonk charges EU buyers without a VAT number 27% Hungarian VAT.
Targeting and CRM data
Convertful's strongest feature is its two-way link with your email platform, so a widget can check what that platform knows about a visitor before it shows. Its features page lists tag, list and custom-field display rules for ActiveCampaign, AWeber, Kit, Drip, GetResponse, Gist, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo and Platformly, and also names Keap and Drift. In practice you can hide your newsletter pop-up from people who already subscribed, or show a renewal offer only to contacts tagged as past buyers.
On top of that, Convertful targets by URL and UTM parameters, referrer, visit number, time since last visit, screen width and device, cookies, city, region and country, and on WordPress by post category, post type and logged-in user. Triggers include exit intent, time on page, scroll depth, inactivity and clicks.
OptiMonk's targeting covers pages, pages viewed, time on site, country, traffic source (Google Ads, organic, Facebook, direct), cookies and returning visitors, with triggers for exit intent on desktop and phones, delay, scroll, click, inactivity and custom JavaScript events. It can skip people who already subscribed through OptiMonk. Its list-based rules work with Klaviyo lists and segments, and the integrations page describes no such rules for its other 34 email and CRM tools.
If you use ActiveCampaign, HubSpot or Kit and want forms that react to your contact data, Convertful is the stronger pick. If Klaviyo is your email tool, both can do it.
Ecommerce features head to head
OptiMonk calls itself the pop-up agent for ecommerce, and its store features run deeper. On every plan, including Free, you can target by cart value, item count and the products in the cart, show product recommendations you pick or that follow what a shopper viewed, and hand each visitor a unique discount code. On Shopify, OptiMonk can check or create the code and apply it at checkout. It also runs holdout tests that compare a campaign against showing nothing, so you can see the revenue the pop-up adds, and it reports influenced revenue per campaign.
Convertful covers the core store tricks through its Shopify app and its WordPress plugin with WooCommerce. Spin-to-win wheels and scratch cards generate one-time discount codes, a button can add a product to the shopper's cart, and display rules can target product pages, categories or what is already in the cart. Its pages do not mention cart-value rules or product recommendations.
For a Shopify store that lives on discount pop-ups, OptiMonk does more. For a store whose main goal is list growth fed into a CRM, Convertful's tag-based rules may matter more than cart rules.
Building campaigns and AI
OptiMonk has rebuilt itself around an AI agent. You describe the offer, the agent sketches design concepts, writes the copy, builds separate desktop and mobile versions and publishes it to your store. Every plan includes it, metered by AI credits (1,000 a month on Free, 3,000 on Essential, 20,000 on Premium). An MCP server lets you build, edit and publish pop-ups from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and you can still change any element by hand in the visual editor. Its gallery lists more than 1,000 pop-ups to start from.
Convertful's AI is a helper inside its editor. On Starter and above it suggests or writes titles and descriptions, produces copy variants for A/B tests and generates images from a prompt. You still lay out the widget yourself in a drag-and-drop editor, starting from 71 templates on the pricing page's count or 100+ on the features page. Convertful has more formats: pop-ups, floating bars, scroll boxes, full-screen welcome mats, inline widgets and floating buttons, plus content locking, quizzes, polls and multi-step widgets that can chain three or four upsells. OptiMonk's features page lists pop-ups, fullscreen takeovers, lucky wheels, scratch cards, surveys and countdowns.
Ease of use and setup
We have not tested either tool hands-on, so treat the points below as each vendor's documented setup.
Convertful says setup takes 20 minutes or less without a developer. You connect a site through the WordPress plugin, the Shopify app, Google Tag Manager or its guides for Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce, Magento and others, then connect your email platform so the CRM rules can read it. A Flows view maps every page with an active widget and the conditions it runs under, which helps once you have a dozen campaigns.
OptiMonk installs through its Shopify app (4.8 stars from 452 reviews on November 4, 2026), a WordPress plugin or a code snippet, and its integrations page lists WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Magento and Squarespace. The chat-first build lowers the skill needed for a first campaign, and campaign alerts explain what is stopping a campaign from showing. Frequency caps and campaign priority keep several offers from piling onto one visitor.
Support and company
Convertful lists live chat, a support portal, a knowledge base, video guides and a members group, and its Enterprise plan adds dedicated support. The company behind it is Sovereign Net LTD, registered in Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, with BVI law in its terms, and Paddle handles billing as merchant of record. If your procurement team needs a US or EU contracting entity, check that first.
OptiMonk answers first with its AI agent, and offers email and a bookable 20-minute call with a person; Premium and Master add an account manager. OptiMonk International Zrt. is based in Debrecen, Hungary, was founded in 2014 and says 30,000+ brands use it.
Who each one suits
Convertful suits businesses that treat pop-ups as the front door to their email platform: bloggers, course sellers, B2B sites and stores that tag contacts in ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Kit or Klaviyo and want each visitor to see the right form. It is also the better value for sites with lots of traffic and a few targeted widgets, and the clear choice for agencies that want to resell under their own brand.
OptiMonk suits Shopify stores, especially smaller ones that want to start free and let an agent handle design. Its cart rules, product recommendations and holdout tests are aimed at revenue per visitor, and the free plan lets you prove the idea before paying. Keep an eye on traffic, because every page load counts and a busy store can outgrow its plan within a month.
For other options, OptinMonster has a larger template library and a WordPress focus, and Privy adds email and SMS sending to its pop-ups.

Questions people ask
Is Convertful cheaper than OptiMonk?
Above 10,000 pageviews a month, yes, on the prices we checked on November 4, 2026. At 100,000 pageviews Convertful costs $59 a month or $444 a year, against OptiMonk's Growth from $99 a month or $828 a year. Below 10,000 pageviews OptiMonk is free, which Convertful cannot match.
Does Convertful have a free plan like OptiMonk?
No. Convertful offers a 14-day trial on every plan and a 14-day money-back period, and its cheapest plan is Solo at $9 a month. OptiMonk's free plan does not expire, needs no card and includes every feature for 10,000 pageviews a month on one domain.
How do the two count pageviews?
Convertful counts a pageview only when a widget is triggered and seen, and several widgets on one page count once. OptiMonk counts every page load on your site, whether or not a campaign shows. On a site where only some pages carry a pop-up, the same plan size lasts longer on Convertful.
Which one works better with Shopify?
OptiMonk has the deeper Shopify integration: it can create unique discount codes in Shopify, apply them at checkout, and target by cart value and contents on every plan. Convertful's Shopify app also generates one-time codes from spin-to-win wheels and can add products to the cart. OptiMonk's app has 4.8 stars from 452 reviews, while Convertful's launched in October 2025.
Can I use either one with WordPress?
Yes. Convertful has a WordPress plugin that also adds WooCommerce discount codes and add-to-cart actions, plus targeting by post category, post type and logged-in user. OptiMonk lists a WordPress plugin and a WooCommerce integration on its integrations page.
Do Convertful and OptiMonk have AI features?
Both do, at different depths. OptiMonk's agent designs, writes and publishes whole campaigns on every plan, and its MCP server works from Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Convertful's AI writes widget copy, makes A/B variants and generates images on Starter and above.
