ProfitWell Metrics
Free planPaddle's subscription reporting for SaaS companies that bill through Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly and others.
Best for subscription businesses that want MRR, churn and benchmark figures without paying for a reporting tool
Facts checked November 4, 2026
The short answer
ProfitWell Metrics reads your billing data and reports MRR, churn, upgrades and downgrades, lifetime value and revenue per customer, and Paddle, which bought ProfitWell in May 2022, still gives it away with unlimited users. It connects to Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora, Recurly, Maxio, Recharge and Paddle's own billing, and it adds benchmarks that Paddle says come from about 30,000 subscription and SaaS companies. It has gaps: Paddle lists no forecasting, the help center says there's no CSV upload or QuickBooks connection, and support runs through a help center and an email address.
Choose it if
- You bill subscriptions through Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora, Recurly, Maxio or Paddle and want standard SaaS metrics without adding a monthly bill
- You want everyone on the team to see the numbers, since ProfitWell allows unlimited users
- You want to know whether a churn rate that worries you is normal, using benchmarks Paddle draws from about 30,000 subscription companies
- You sell Shopify subscriptions through Recharge, which has its own ProfitWell connector
- You want subscriber revenue figures on your HubSpot contacts or in Intercom without building the sync yourself
Skip it if
- Most of your revenue comes from one-time orders. Paddle says most of its metrics are designed for subscription pricing, and Putler covers stores that sell both
- You sell through the App Store or Google Play, which Paddle doesn't list as sources. RevenueCat is built for app subscriptions
- Your billing lives in QuickBooks or a spreadsheet, since ProfitWell takes no CSV uploads and has no QuickBooks connection, so you'd be entering data by hand or through the API
- You need revenue forecasts or failed-payment recovery in the same tool, which Baremetrics sells
- You want warehouse export or a built-in CRM, which ChartMogul offers on its plans
Main features
Subscription metrics
Out of the box you get monthly recurring revenue, churn, upgrades and downgrades, customer lifetime value, active customers and revenue per customer, built from your current and historical billing data.
Billing connectors
Connect Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora, Recurly, Maxio, Recharge or Paddle from the integrations tab. Stripe needs an admin to grant read access, and Paddle's help center says the first import usually takes a couple of hours.
Benchmarks
Compare your figures with industry benchmarks that Paddle says draw on about 30,000 subscription and SaaS companies, so you can tell whether your churn or growth is typical for a business like yours.
Segments and cohorts
Split your metrics by customer segment, signup cohort and pricing plan to see which plans keep customers longest and which ones lose them.
Customer health and engagement
Add the ProfitWell.js snippet to your app, directly or through Google Tag Manager, Kajabi, Thinkific or WordPress with MemberPress, and Metrics scores customer health, tracks engagement trends and flags accounts that look likely to cancel.
Data enrichment
Metrics adds Clearbit and FullContact data to your customer records, which helps when you segment by company type or size.
Alerts and Pulse updates
Set alerts on the metrics you care about, and get Pulse notifications with your numbers by email or in Slack.
API and CRM exports
The Metrics API and Customers API send your figures to other tools, and ready-made exports put ProfitWell data on HubSpot contact and company properties, in Intercom and in Drift. Help articles also cover sending new and changed customers to Google Sheets through Zapier.
Cash flow view for Stripe
If Stripe is your billing system, Metrics also shows a cash flow overview of subscriptions, payments, fees, refunds and net cash.
Pricing
Checked November 4, 2026. Paddle calls ProfitWell Metrics 100% free and publishes no usage limits or revenue cap. Retain is a separate churn recovery product, and Paddle gives no price for it on its pricing or product pages.

Questions people ask
Is ProfitWell Metrics still free?
Yes. Paddle describes it as 100% free and lists no usage limits, revenue cap or paid tier (checked November 4, 2026). The only paid product attached to it is Retain, which handles churn recovery and has no published price.
What happened to ProfitWell?
Paddle announced on May 25, 2022 that it had acquired ProfitWell, then a Boston company. The profitwell.com site now redirects to Paddle, and the product lives on as ProfitWell Metrics, with its own login and a help section inside Paddle's help center.
Do I need to bill through Paddle to use ProfitWell Metrics?
No. Paddle lists Stripe, Chargebee, Braintree, Zuora and Recurly alongside its own billing, and the help center adds Maxio and Recharge. You connect whichever system you already use.
Can I upload a CSV or connect QuickBooks?
Not at the moment. Paddle's help center says ProfitWell doesn't support CSV uploads or QuickBooks. If your billing system has no connector, you can add subscriptions by hand in the Customers tab or send them through the API, and changes take some time to show up in your metrics.
Does ProfitWell Metrics work for ecommerce stores?
Partly. Paddle says most of the metrics are designed for subscription pricing, so a store that sells one-off products won't get much from them. If you bill through Stripe, you also get a cash flow view of payments, fees, refunds and net cash, and Shopify subscription sellers can connect Recharge.
How many people can use one account?
As many as you like. Paddle's help center says ProfitWell allows unlimited users, and you add them by sending an invite from account settings. The person who created the account can add teammates and revoke access.
How long does it take to see my numbers?
Paddle's setup articles for Stripe, Maxio and Recharge say the first import usually takes a couple of hours after you connect your billing system.
