The short answer
Tally is the better pick if you want free forms with no submission cap. Its free plan includes unlimited forms and responses, conditional logic, Stripe payments and signatures, and Pro costs $29 a month. Jotform is the better pick when a form has to do more work after someone submits it: recurring payments through 40 processors, HIPAA features with a BAA on Gold, offline collection in its iOS and Android apps, or PDFs, e-signatures and approval flows. You'll pay for Jotform sooner, because its free plan stops at 100 submissions a month and Bronze costs $39 a month. Prices checked November 4, 2026.
Which wins for what
- Free plan Tally Tally's free plan has unlimited forms and submissions under fair use, while Jotform Starter allows 5 forms and 100 submissions a month.
- Cheapest paid plan Tally Tally Pro is $29 a month or $290 a year, against $39 a month or $408 a year for Jotform Bronze, and Pro has no submission cap.
- Payments and subscriptions Jotform Jotform connects to 40 payment processors and its Stripe integration handles subscriptions and donations, while Tally takes one-time Stripe payments only.
- Health data and HIPAA Jotform Jotform offers HIPAA features and a signed BAA for eligible customers on Gold and Enterprise; Tally's pages don't mention HIPAA.
- Team members Tally Tally Pro includes unlimited team members, while Jotform lists every plan below Enterprise as single-user.
- Offline and mobile data collection Jotform Jotform's free iOS and Android app collects answers without a connection and syncs later; Tally lists no mobile app.
- PDFs, e-signatures and approvals Jotform Jotform turns submissions into PDFs, sends documents for signature and routes them for approval, which Tally leaves to other apps.
- Building a quick form Tally You type a Tally form like a document and can start before you sign up, where Jotform's drag-and-drop builder has more menus to learn.

Pricing compared
Jotform publishes US dollar prices on its pricing page. Tally's pricing page showed euros to us, so its US prices come from Tally's help center. We checked both on November 4, 2026.

The two companies charge for different things, so compare what each plan gives you at your volume. Jotform sizes its plans by volume. Bronze allows 25 forms and 1,000 submissions a month, Silver 50 forms and 2,500, and Gold 100 forms and 10,000. Tally sizes its plans by features. Every Tally plan, the free one included, has unlimited forms and submissions under a fair use policy, and you upgrade to remove the Tally badge or to add custom domains, team members and partial submissions.
That makes your monthly volume the deciding number. A sign-up form taking 2,000 responses a month costs nothing on Tally and needs Jotform Silver at $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly. Tally's fair use page treats about 50,000 submissions a month, kept up for several months, as extensive use; at that point Tally contacts you and offers a custom plan.
Yearly billing on Tally works out to two months free. On Jotform it saves about 13% on Bronze and 23% on Gold. Refunds differ as well. Jotform offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on paid plans, while Tally has a no-refund policy and considers refunds only after a long outage on its side, so test the free plan before you pay. Jotform gives eligible nonprofits and schools 50% off Bronze, Silver and Gold. Tally runs education and nonprofit programs but doesn't publish their terms.
Free plans and their limits
The free plans are where the two differ most. On Tally's free plan you get unlimited forms and submissions, conditional logic with no cap on conditions, calculated fields, signatures, file uploads up to 10 MB a file, Stripe payments and direct connections to Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable and Slack. In return you accept a Tally badge on each form and the 10 MB file limit, and you go without the Pro features: team members, custom domains, partial submissions and custom CSS.
Jotform's Starter plan is closer to a long trial. It allows 5 active forms, 100 submissions a month, 10 payment submissions, 10 signed documents, 10,000 form views and 100 MB of uploads, and your forms carry Jotform branding. Starter also stores only 500 submissions in total. Jotform's pricing page says the oldest responses may be removed once you run out of submission storage, so export anything you need to keep.
Neither company runs a separate free trial. Both point you to the free plan as the way to try the product.
Payments, logic and paperwork head to head
Both tools take payments without adding their own fee on top of the processor's rate. Tally connects to Stripe only and takes one-time payments; its help center says it doesn't support recurring payments. Jotform lists 40 payment processors, among them Stripe, PayPal, Square and Authorize.Net, and its Stripe integration handles subscriptions, donations, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Jotform does cap payment submissions by plan, from 10 a month on Starter to 1,000 on Gold. If you sell memberships or customers ask to pay by PayPal, Jotform wins outright. For workshop seats or deposits paid through Stripe, Tally does the job on its free plan.
Logic is close to a draw. Jotform's conditional logic shows or hides fields, calculates values, requires or masks fields, skips pages, changes the thank-you page and changes who gets the notification email. Tally's logic shows or hides blocks, jumps to pages, makes answers required, calculates values, hides the submit button and redirects people based on their answers. Tally's calculated fields can add up a quiz score or an order total and pass the price to the payment block, and Tally includes all of it on the free plan.
Jotform pulls ahead on what happens after someone submits. Its PDF Editor turns each submission into a formatted PDF, which suits invoices, certificates and intake records. Jotform Sign sends agreements and waivers for e-signature, with 100 signed documents a month on Bronze and 1,000 on Gold. Jotform Workflows routes a submission to the right person for approval, and Jotform Tables shows responses as a spreadsheet, cards or a calendar. Tally collects a signature inside the form and passes answers on to Notion, Airtable or Sheets, where you'd build any follow-up process yourself.
Jotform also covers work away from a desk. Its free Mobile Forms app for iOS and Android collects answers without a connection and syncs them when the device is back online. Tally's site mentions no mobile app, so its forms run in a browser and need a connection.
On AI, the two have taken different routes. Jotform has an AI form builder that drafts a form from a prompt, plus AI Agents that answer customers by chat, phone, WhatsApp and other channels; Starter includes 5 active agents and 100 conversations a month, and Gold 100 agents and 10,000 conversations. Tally runs a free MCP server on every plan, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can create and edit your forms and read submissions, though they can't delete forms or responses.
Integrations, teams and where your data lives
Jotform's integrations page says 200+, although some of its other pages say 150+. The list includes Google Sheets, Airtable, Slack, Salesforce and HubSpot, and Notion connects through Zapier. Tally has nine direct integrations (Google Sheets, Notion, Coda, Airtable, Slack, Discord, Linear, Attio and webhooks), eight automation platforms including Zapier, Make and n8n, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, and an API. If your answers need to reach Salesforce or HubSpot, Jotform has the native connection. If they need to reach Notion, Tally sends them there directly.
Team access is one of the clearest differences between the two. Jotform's pricing table lists Starter, Bronze, Silver and Gold as single-user plans and keeps multiple users for Enterprise. Tally Pro includes unlimited team members, with workspaces and folders to manage who sees what, for $29 a month.
Both can keep your data in Europe. Tally hosts form data on Google Cloud in Belgium, encrypts it in transit and at rest, and includes a data processing agreement in the terms you accept at signup. Jotform lets you move your account to servers in Frankfurt, Germany, from its settings, and Enterprise customers can choose another region. For US health data, only Jotform has an answer: HIPAA features on Gold and Enterprise, with a signed Business Associate Agreement for eligible customers. Tally's pages don't mention HIPAA at all, so a clinic or therapy practice should rule it out for patient intake.
Ease of use
Building a Tally form feels like writing a document. You type a question on a blank page and insert blocks for ratings, dates, uploads or payments, much as you would in Notion, and you can start building before you create an account. For a sign-up form, a waitlist or a short survey, Tally gets you to a shareable link faster.
Jotform uses a drag-and-drop builder. You open the Add Element menu and drag fields, payment blocks or widgets onto the form, then choose a Classic layout with every question on one page or a Card layout that shows one question at a time. There are more menus because Jotform does more, and its 20,000+ templates make up for some of that, since you can start from a ready-made order form, registration or consent form and change the fields. A form that takes a payment, emails a different person depending on the answers and produces a PDF at the end is easier to build inside Jotform than to piece together from Tally and two other apps.
Support and the companies behind them
Jotform's contact page offers 24/7 live chat with an average reply time of two minutes or less, a support request form that averages 50 minutes, a phone line, and an AI support agent on WhatsApp and Messenger. Enterprise customers get a dedicated support team. Tally offers a help center and a contact support page, and it doesn't publish support hours or response times.
The companies differ in size and age. Aytekin Tank founded Jotform in 2006, and its headquarters is in San Francisco. Marie Martens and Filip Minev founded Tally in Ghent, Belgium, in 2020; Tally describes itself as a small, independent team in Europe that runs on customer payments without outside investment.
Who each one suits
Pick Jotform when your form is part of a business process: an order form that takes PayPal or subscription payments, a patient intake form that needs a BAA, an inspection done on a tablet with no signal, or an application that has to become a signed PDF and go to a manager for approval. Size the plan to your monthly submissions, because that is what Jotform charges for.
Pick Tally when your forms collect answers and send them somewhere else: sign-ups, feedback surveys, quizzes, waitlists or one-off Stripe payments. Its free plan will carry most creators and small teams for a long time, and Pro at $29 a month adds your team and your own domain.
If what you want is more email subscribers from pop-ups and sign-up bars on your own website, a form builder is the wrong tool. Convertful is built for that job, with pop-ups, floating bars and exit-intent targeting.
Which should you choose?
Choose Jotform if
- You bill subscriptions, memberships or donations, or your customers want to pay by PayPal or Square
- You handle patient information and need HIPAA features with a signed BAA, and can budget for Gold at $99 a month billed yearly
- Your staff fill in forms on phones or tablets in places without internet
- Each submission has to become a PDF, a signed document or an approval request
- You'd rather start from a ready-made template than a blank page
Choose Tally if
- You expect hundreds or thousands of responses a month and don't want to pay per submission
- Several people on your team need to edit forms, and Enterprise pricing is out of reach
- Your answers go straight into Notion, Airtable or Google Sheets
- You take one-off payments through Stripe, such as deposits or workshop seats
- You want an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to build and edit your forms through Tally's free MCP server
Questions people ask
Is Jotform or Tally cheaper?
Tally is cheaper at almost any volume. Its free plan has no submission cap, and Pro costs $29 a month or $290 a year. Jotform's free plan stops at 100 submissions a month, and Bronze costs $39 a month or $408 a year for 1,000 submissions. Prices checked November 4, 2026.
Is Tally's free plan unlimited?
Tally allows unlimited forms and submissions on its free plan under a fair use policy. Its fair use page treats about 50,000 submissions a month, kept up over several months, as extensive use, and Tally offers a custom plan at that point. Free forms show a Tally badge, and uploads are limited to 10 MB a file.
Can Tally take recurring payments like Jotform?
No. Tally's payment block takes one-time payments through Stripe, and its help center says it doesn't support recurring payments. Jotform handles subscriptions and donations through Stripe and connects to 40 payment processors, including PayPal and Square.
Which one is HIPAA compliant?
Jotform offers HIPAA features on its Gold and Enterprise plans, and eligible customers can sign a Business Associate Agreement. Tally's pages don't mention HIPAA, so it isn't a safe choice for patient data in the US.
Can more than one person work on the same forms?
On Tally, yes: Pro at $29 a month includes unlimited team members with shared workspaces. Jotform's pricing page lists Starter, Bronze, Silver and Gold as single-user plans and offers multiple users on Enterprise, which is priced on request.
Do Jotform and Tally work offline?
Jotform does, through its free Mobile Forms app for iOS and Android, which saves answers on the device and syncs them later. Tally doesn't list a mobile app, so its forms need a browser and an internet connection.
