Best for small subscription businesses that want a flat monthly fee and already use Zoho
Facts checked November 4, 2026
The short answer
Zoho Billing suits a small business that sends quotes, bills customers on a schedule and would rather pay a flat fee than a share of revenue. Recurring billing, trials, dunning and metered usage all sit on the Premium plan at $100 a month, or $79 billed yearly, because the $50 Standard plan covers one-time invoices only. Zoho Books and Zoho CRM connect on every plan, and that is the strongest reason to choose it over Chargebee or Stripe Billing. Both self-serve plans stop at $1 million in billed revenue a year, and automatic usage billing needs the Enterprise edition, which has no public price.
Choose it if
- Your accounts already live in Zoho Books or your pipeline in Zoho CRM, and you want customers and invoices in one set of records
- You bill enough each month that a flat $79 to $100 fee costs less than a percentage of revenue would
- You sell to businesses that sign a quote first, then pay a recurring invoice or a retainer
- You want to keep your own gateway, such as Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.net or GoCardless, and pay its fees directly
- You sell in-app subscriptions and want App Store and Google Play subscriptions shown next to your web customers
Skip it if
- You only send one-off invoices. Zoho's free Zoho Invoice handles up to 500 a year
- You want someone else to collect and file sales tax and VAT. Paddle acts as the merchant of record, while Zoho Billing runs payments through your own gateway
- You expect to pass $1 million in yearly billing soon, since that moves you to the Enterprise edition at a price you have to request
- You need usage charged automatically from usage records or prepaid credit drawdown; Zoho reserves both for Enterprise
- A growth team wants checkout experiments and cancel-save offers. Chargebee is built more around retention
Main features
Subscription management
On Premium you can run free trials, prorated upgrades and downgrades, pauses, cancellations and reactivations, and schedule a pause or a cancellation for the end of a term. Standard doesn't include recurring billing at all.
Metered billing
You send usage through the REST API or enter it in the app, then bill it with per-unit, tiered, volume, package or overage pricing. Premium adds usage to the pending invoice; charging straight from usage records and prepaid credit drawdown need Enterprise.
Dunning and payment retries
Premium gives you three dunning rules, automatic retries on failed online payments and reminder emails with open tracking. When the dunning period ends, you choose whether to mark the invoice unpaid, void it or cancel the subscription.
Hosted payment pages
Premium includes checkout page templates you can link to, embed in an iframe or build through the API. It also tracks abandoned carts and lets customers change quantities within limits you set.
Customer portal
Customers pay invoices, update or add cards, download copies and approve quotes, which turn into invoices once accepted. On Premium they can also pause, resume or cancel a subscription and change add-ons and coupons themselves.
Quotes and invoicing
Every plan covers quotes, progress invoicing, payment terms, multi-currency invoices with automatic exchange rates, price lists and sales tax reports. Premium adds late fees and consolidated invoices that combine several subscriptions.
Payment gateways
You collect through your own account with Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.net, Braintree, GoCardless, CSG Forte, Verifone, Paystack, SeerBit or Zoho Payments, and card, ACH and direct debit payments work on every plan.
Revenue recognition and SaaS metrics
Premium includes two revenue recognition rules, basic recognition reports and SaaS metrics. Cohort charts, custom dashboards and manual recognition are Enterprise features.
Zia AI features
Premium's CoCreate drafts quotes, invoices and credit notes from a plain-language prompt, and Zia adds forecasting and anomaly alerts on your billing charts. Ask Zia, the chat assistant that runs actions for you, is Enterprise only; every plan can connect outside AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT through Zoho's MCP connection.
Zoho and accounting connections
Zoho Books, Zoho CRM, Zoho Desk and Zoho Analytics connect on every plan, along with QuickBooks Online and Xero. Zapier covers the apps Zoho doesn't connect to directly.
Pricing
Zoho's US prices, checked November 4, 2026, per organization and before local taxes. Standard and Premium allow up to 100,000 invoices and $1 million in billed revenue a year. Extra users cost $9 a month each; the add-on table also shows $7.50 a user, under a heading that says billed annually. Your payment gateway charges its own processing fees, and Zoho lists no fee of its own on top.

Questions people ask
Is Zoho Billing the same as Zoho Subscriptions?
Yes. Zoho renamed the product and announces the change on the Zoho Billing home page. Existing accounts carry on under the new name, and the sign-in page still uses the old service name.
Does Zoho Billing have a free plan?
No. Standard and Premium each come with a 14-day free trial, and Zoho also offers a 45-minute demo. If you only need to send invoices, Zoho Invoice is free for up to two users and 500 invoices a year.
Which Zoho Billing plan do I need for subscriptions?
Premium. Zoho's plan comparison marks recurring billing, trials, proration, dunning and metered billing as unavailable on Standard. Premium costs $100 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly, as of November 4, 2026.
Does Zoho Billing charge transaction fees?
Zoho charges a flat plan fee and says it adds no charges of its own for using a payment gateway. Your gateway, such as Stripe or PayPal, still takes its normal processing fee on each payment.
What happens when I pass $1 million in revenue?
Standard and Premium allow up to $1 million in billed revenue and 100,000 invoices a year. Zoho asks you to contact support beyond that, and its Enterprise edition has no revenue limit but also no published price.
Does Zoho Billing handle sales tax?
It applies sales tax to invoices, produces tax reports on every plan and connects to Avalara. Payments go through your own gateway, so you remain the seller and file your own returns. Paddle is the usual pick if you want a merchant of record to take that on.
What is the difference between Zoho Billing and Zoho Invoice?
Zoho Invoice is free and capped at two users, two organizations and 500 invoices a year. Zoho Billing is the paid product Zoho points you to when you outgrow it, with more users, higher limits and, on Premium, subscription billing.
