Maxio

Billing, collections and revenue recognition for B2B SaaS and AI companies, built for the finance team.

Best for B2B SaaS finance teams

Facts checked November 4, 2026

The short answer

Maxio suits a B2B software company whose finance team wants subscription and usage billing, collections and revenue recognition in the same system as its SaaS metrics. It replaces a lot of month-end spreadsheet work: deferred revenue schedules, A/R aging, roll forwards and DSO reports come from the same records that send the invoices. The Grow plan costs $599 a month on a yearly agreement and you start with a sales demo, so an early-stage company that only needs to charge cards will pay for far more than it uses.

Choose it if

  • Your controller exports billing data into spreadsheets every month to work out deferred revenue and A/R
  • You need ASC 606 or IFRS 15 revenue schedules that will stand up in an audit
  • You bill tens of thousands of dollars a month and would rather pay a flat platform fee up to $100,000 in monthly billings than a percentage of every invoice
  • You sell usage-based or hybrid pricing, such as an AI product metered through an API, alongside fixed subscriptions
  • Sales, finance and support all need logins, and you don't want to pay per seat

Main features

  • Subscription management

Set up a product catalog, contract terms and parent and child customer accounts, then handle renewals from one place. Your customers get self-service signup pages, free trials and a customer portal.

  • Usage-based billing

Maxio collects usage through its API, applies the rates, tiers and overages you set in the catalog, and builds the invoice from what each customer used. For usage contracts it reports ARR as the average annualized value of the prior three months.

  • Invoicing

Bill fixed fees, usage and project milestones, and send e-invoices, proforma invoices or one consolidated invoice for several accounts. Discounts and coupons sit in the same catalog.

  • Collections and dunning

Dunning rules retry failed payments, and message templates and customer statements help your team chase overdue accounts. DSO reporting shows how long cash takes to arrive.

  • Revenue recognition

Maxio keeps scheduled, recognized and deferred revenue for each contract, with performance obligations, standalone selling prices, carveouts and more than one revenue book. It is built around ASC 606 and IFRS 15.

  • Financial reports

The home page cites 30+ one-click reports. The pricing page lists A/R aging, roll forwards, deferred revenue by transaction, an open balance diagnostic, a state sales tax report and DSO.

  • SaaS metrics

The subscription momentum report shows how ARR or MRR moved through new business, expansion and churn. Cohorts, renewal rate, top customers and projections come from the same billing records.

  • Quoting (CPQ)

Configure & Quote builds quotes that carry through to billing. Maxio bought RevOps.io in 2025 to extend its quoting and deal structuring.

  • Payments and gateways

Take payments through Maxio Payments, which reconciles automatically, or connect one of 21 gateways listed on its integrations page, including Stripe, Braintree, Authorize.Net, Adyen, GoCardless and PayPal.

  • Accounting and CRM integrations

Native connections cover QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct, plus Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive. Avalara, Anrok and TaxJar handle sales tax.

Questions people ask

Is Maxio the same company as Chargify?

Yes. Battery Ventures combined Chargify, a subscription billing company founded in 2009, with SaaSOptics, a revenue recognition and SaaS metrics company founded in 2010, in 2021. The joint company launched under the Maxio name in April 2022.

How much does Maxio cost?

The Grow plan costs $599 a month and covers up to $100,000 in monthly billings. Above that you move to Scale, which Maxio prices by quote. Agreements are paid yearly unless you pay extra for monthly or quarterly payment, and optional modules such as multi-entity or EU hosting are quoted separately.

Does Maxio have a free trial?

The pricing page doesn't offer one. Both plans start with a demo or a call with sales, though Maxio's developer pages link to a sandbox for testing the API.

Does Maxio charge per user?

No. Maxio's pricing FAQ says users are unlimited at no additional charge, so finance, sales and support can all have logins on either plan.

Can Maxio handle ASC 606 revenue recognition?

Yes. Maxio tracks scheduled, recognized and deferred revenue against performance obligations and standalone selling prices, under ASC 606 and IFRS 15. Advanced revenue management is one of the optional modules, so check which revenue reports your quote includes.

What support does Maxio offer?

You can reach support through an online form, by email, or by live chat if your plan includes it. Staff in the US, Ireland and the Philippines cover weekday business hours, and standard support promises a reply within two hours for a full outage and one business day for other issues. Premium Support, a paid add-on, shortens those times and adds 24/5 coverage.

Does Maxio have AI features?

Maxio has announced Maxio AI, a set of agents for work such as month-end close, collections and pricing analysis, where every write waits for your approval. The page currently offers a waitlist and no pricing. It also describes Maxio MCP, which lets your own AI assistant read your billing and revenue data.
