Facts checked November 4, 2026
The short answer
Homebase gives a small business the weekly schedule, a time clock on a tablet or phone, team messages and, if you add it, payroll that runs from the hours people clocked. The free Basic plan covers one location with up to 10 employees, and paid plans charge per location with no cap on staff, so a busy site with 40 people on the schedule pays the same as one with 12. The catch is the location count: every extra address is billed as a full plan, live chat and phone support start on Essentials, and labor cost controls such as blocking early clock-ins sit on the $120 All-in-One plan.
Choose it if
- You run one location with 10 or fewer staff and want a free schedule and time clock
- You have a large hourly team at one or two addresses, where per-location pricing costs less than per-user pricing
- You use Square, Clover, Toast, Lightspeed or Shopify at the till and want labor and sales in the same reports
- You want payroll for US staff to run straight from the hours clocked, without exporting timesheets
- Your servers share tips and you want the pool worked out from POS data and added to timesheets
Skip it if
- You have several small locations, because each address is billed as its own plan
- You need payroll outside the United States; Homebase payroll covers the 50 states and Washington, DC only
- Your staff are salaried office workers who don't clock in or work shifts
- You need overtime alerts and early clock-in blocks on a tight budget, since both are only on All-in-One
- You want phone support from people while staying on the free plan, which comes with AI chat and the help center only
Main features
Time clock
Staff clock in and out on a tablet by the door, a computer, a POS device or their phone, and their hours and breaks land on the timesheet. The free plan includes it, with 90 days of timesheet history; paid plans keep four years or more.
Geofencing and clock-in photos
On Essentials and up, the mobile time clock only lets people clock in when they are at the job site, and a tablet or POS clock-in takes a photo of the person. Both make it harder for one employee to clock in for another.
Scheduling
Build the week's schedule from templates or copy last week, and staff see it on their phones as soon as you publish. From Essentials, employees set their availability, request time off and trade or claim open shifts, with a manager approving the swap.
AI Scheduling Assistant
On Plus and All-in-One, Homebase drafts a schedule from your team's history, availability and time off, which a manager reviews before publishing. Homebase also says the assistant can turn a photo of a paper schedule into a digital one.
Team messaging
Every plan has real-time chat with your staff. Essentials adds announcement channels, shift notes and read receipts, so you can see who has looked at the new schedule.
Payroll
The add-on calculates wages, taxes and tips from the timesheets, pays people by direct deposit or printable check, and files payroll taxes, W-2s and 1099s. It covers the 50 states and Washington, DC.
Tip Manager
For $25 a location a month, Homebase pulls tips from your POS, works out the tip pool and adds each person's share to their timesheet.
POS and payroll integrations
The integrations page lists 17 connections, including Square, Clover, Toast, Lightspeed, Shopify and PAR at the till, Gusto, ADP and Paychex for payroll, and QuickBooks Online Plus.
Labor cost controls
All-in-One warns you when someone nears overtime, stops early clock-ins and early returns from break, clocks people out when the shift ends, and builds schedules against forecast sales and labor targets.
Onboarding and HR help
All-in-One sends new hires a packet with W-4, I-9 and direct deposit forms to e-sign, stores their documents, and gives you certified HR advisors who can review your policies and write a handbook.
Pricing
Prices checked November 4, 2026 on Homebase's pricing page. Plans are charged per location, and Homebase counts each separate physical address as a location, even within one city. A limited-time offer gave six months of payroll and the Plus plan free when you add payroll. Other add-ons: Tip Manager $25 a location a month, Task Manager $13 a location a month, background checks $30 each, job post boosts from $50 a post and the Hiring Assistant from $99 a month.
