My Name is Bhawna Agarwal & I look into payments in FormGet. Retrieving a failed payment could be tricky but with right software things can be quite easy & functioning automatically.
I use Profitwell to help me with failed transactions. In the dashboard you will get the failed transactions details, revenue retained, Failed to Recover, etc.
The customer get notification via email, on website,every time the payment fails.
I simply like this software because every failed payment goes through an automatic process of retaining & I don't need to think about it anymore. You just need to do the initial setup, which is simple.
Also I get notification about payment retained by Profitwell. I can set goals as per my desire & can be tracked easily everything within the dashboard. Anytime I can stop retaining a customer, just by clicking on “Stop Retain” button.

To manage the failed transactions is a little bit annoying as why would a person wants his transaction failed? So to manage them, I would like to suggest Pabbly Subscriptions which is a subscription, recurring billing & invoices management software.
In this software, there is is a feature called as ‘Dunning Management' in which if the transaction gets failed then an email is sent to the customer to inform him about the failed payment & reminds him to do the payment. If the payment is still not received then the subscription is discontinued.

Our SaaS business (https://penji.co) currently use them for analytic and seeing our total monthly recurring revenue + seeing all the failed transactions. They have a feature that automatically contact the customer requesting an updated CC, which I thought was neat.
Another one you could try is https://chartmogul.com/. They're pretty solid too, but a bit confusing to look at. Requires a bit of learning curve to understand your own data.
Both of them take data from Stripe and other online payment processors.
