The short answer

Wix suits people who care about how the site looks and want to drag things exactly where they want them, then add a store, a blog or appointment booking from the same dashboard. You can build for free, but taking payments needs the Core plan, which Wix lists at $29 a month billed yearly, and the free plan shows Wix branding on a wixsite.com address. The store side covers physical and digital products, subscriptions, dropshipping and print on demand, and selling on Amazon, eBay, Etsy and social channels. Stores with large, complex catalogs should note the limit of 1,000 variants per product; Shopify allows up to 2,048 and WooCommerce sets no limit.

Choose it if

  • You want to design pages freely with drag and drop, or start from a single prompt with the AI site builder
  • Your shop sits alongside a blog, a portfolio or appointment booking and you want them all on one site
  • You want to try everything before paying, since you can build and publish a store on the free plan and upgrade when you are ready to take payments
  • You want to sell in person too, with Wix Retail POS or Wix Mobile POS syncing stock with the online store
  • You would like dropshipping or print-on-demand products without setting up a separate platform

Pricing

Wix shows prices by location; Core ($29) and Business Elite ($159) are the US prices on Wix's eCommerce page for yearly plans paid up front, checked November 4, 2026. We could not confirm US prices for Light and Business from our European server, so they are left blank; check wix.com/plans before you buy. Taxes are added at checkout. Questions people ask

Can you sell on Wix for free?

You can build and publish a store on the free plan, but you cannot accept payments. Wix requires a paid plan from Core upward, listed at $29 a month billed yearly as of November 4, 2026. The free plan also shows Wix branding and uses a wixsite.com address.

Does Wix have a free trial?

Wix has no free trial of its paid plans. Instead, it gives a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your first upgrade to a paid plan. You can use the free plan for as long as you like before deciding.

Which Wix plan do I need for an online store?

Core is the cheapest plan that accepts payments and includes basic eCommerce. Business adds standard eCommerce and more storage and collaborators, and Business Elite adds advanced eCommerce plus multiple sites in different languages and currencies. The Light plan cannot take payments.

Does Wix charge transaction fees?

Wix does not take a cut of your sales on top of payment processing. Wix Payments charges 2.9% plus $0.30 per card transaction in the US, excluding American Express. Cross-border payments, multi-currency payments and chargebacks cost extra.

Is Wix better than Shopify for a small store?

Wix is the easier choice when the shop is one part of a wider site, such as a portfolio, blog or booking business, and you want full control of the page layout. Shopify suits stores where selling is the whole business and you expect to add many apps or grow a large catalog.

Does Wix come with a domain?

Most yearly and multi-year paid plans include a voucher for a free domain for one year, redeemable within 60 days of your first purchase. It covers a new domain registered with Wix, not the renewal of one you already own. You can also connect a domain you bought elsewhere.

Can I sell in person with Wix?

Yes. Wix Retail POS works for a physical shop and Wix Mobile POS for selling on the go, and both sync inventory and orders with your online store.
