SpotOn
Restaurant and bar POS with handhelds and offline mode, plus a card terminal for shops and salons.
Best for full-service restaurants and busy bars that want handhelds on the floor
Facts checked November 4, 2026
The short answer
SpotOn suits sit-down restaurants and bars where servers take orders and payments at the table on a handheld, and where the system has to keep running when the internet drops. It publishes its prices, so you can compare the two main plans before a sales call: $55 a station a month with hardware bought up front, or a $0 software fee in exchange for higher card rates and a two-year term. Inventory comes through partner apps such as MarginEdge, and online ordering and marketing sit in a separate Core Bundle at up to $200 a location a month, so budget above the plan price if you want those.
Choose it if
- You run a full-service restaurant and want servers taking orders and card payments at the table on handhelds
- Your bar runs a lot of tabs and you want to pre-authorize the card with one tap when a tab opens
- Your internet drops now and then, and stations, kitchen screens, handhelds and printers need to keep working until it comes back
- You'd rather buy hardware up front and stay month to month than sign a two-year contract
- You want help getting started: SpotOn assigns an onboarding specialist who programs the menu and trains your staff
Skip it if
- You want to open with no monthly software fee and no contract. SpotOn's $0 plan needs a two-year term and processing minimums, while Square for Restaurants has a free plan
- You want bottle and ingredient counts inside the POS. SpotOn handles inventory through partners such as MarginEdge, so plan for a second subscription
- You want to run your POS on iPads. SpotOn prices its plans around its own Station and handheld hardware, and TouchBistro runs on iPads
- You run a shop with a large stock list. The SpotOn Terminal for small businesses centers on payments, tips, loyalty and sales reports, and Lightspeed Retail is built for inventory-heavy stores
- You expect to call about menu changes or billing late at night. Restaurant, payment device and hardware support runs 24/7, but the menu, billing and Teamwork lines keep set hours
Main features
Handhelds
The handheld weighs under a pound, has a 6.5-inch spill-proof touchscreen and a battery SpotOn says lasts a full shift. Servers can take orders and accept tap, chip, swipe, Apple Pay and Google Pay at the table.
Automatic offline mode
When the internet goes down, stations, kitchen displays, handhelds, printers and kiosks stay connected and orders still reach the kitchen. Card payments taken offline sync once the connection returns.
Bar tabs with pre-authorization
Bartenders start a tab and pre-authorize the card with one tap on the menu screen, then close it out from a station or a handheld. Bill splitting and a picture-based drink menu are built in.
AI menu assistant
You build and edit menus by typing prompts instead of changing items one at a time, which saves time when prices or specials change often.
Reporting and multi-location dashboards
Reports show in-house and online sales by category over any period, and owners with several sites can compare locations from a browser or the Dashboard mobile app.
Online ordering and delivery
SpotOn Order, part of the Core Bundle, takes orders from your own site and the GoTo Place app. Integrations bring in DoorDash, Uber Eats and other marketplaces through partners such as Deliverect and Chowly.
Reservations and waitlist
SpotOn Reserve manages bookings and a waitlist from the same system as the POS, and SpotOn also lists an OpenTable integration.
Teamwork scheduling and tips
The Teamwork app handles staff scheduling, labor management and tip management, with an employee app on phones and payroll connections such as Gusto, ADP, Paylocity and Paychex.
Kiosks and kitchen displays
SpotOn sells self-order kiosks and a kitchen display system, and both stay connected in offline mode along with the stations and handhelds.
SpotOn Terminal for small businesses
A wireless card terminal for retail shops, salons, auto shops and professional services, with preset tips, optional loyalty points and surcharge or cash-discount plans that pass card fees to customers.
